2 0 1 9 . 2 . 19 (Tue) ~ 2 0 1 9 . 6 . 1 (Sat)
Camouflage | Chou Meng-Yeh Solo Exhibition
2 0 1 9 . 2 . 19 (Tue) ~ 2 0 1 9 . 6 . 1 (Sat)
Camouflage, which animals change their colors so that they can seamlessly blend into their surroundings, is a strategy for animals to survive in nature. It’s a disguising for hiding themselves from predators or fooling their prey.
Chou considers that clothes, manners, and plastic surgeries are some kinds of camouflage for human beings. Suho has collaborated with Chou for almost twenty years knowing that the artist kept her pure heart under layers of camouflage for almost half a century.
This exhibition employed dyed recycled pulp as the main material. Chou rebuilds the circular camouflage pattern on the wall and animal models, which was made by pulp as well, to create a sense of camouflage in the space. The artist hopes to inspire viewers to reflect on the different layers of camouflage they wear in their daily lives.
